Who offers lowest profile speed bleeders? Motion pro install

Post by strider80 »

Anyone know who offers the lowest profile fork speed bleeders? I have access to a machine shop so drilling and tapping is no big deal.

Yes. I do know.

MotionPro has some 'lowboys'. As stated before (and answered by your post), they DO require drill/tap.

You can get specs on the web.

The 'highboy' bleeders are the same NON-KYB threads screwed into an adapter.

How 'bout this??:

See? Both measurements tell you everything you need to know.

...you're welcome!

Isn't this site great!!

Great thanks canyn. Looks like I can order the cheaper ones with the adapters and just not use the adapters then raid the machine shop at work for the right drill and tap.

Cheaper? Huh?

You mean 'greater value'? At the very least 'less expensive'!!

'Ya can't say cheaper!

I do believe the shorter pieces are available sans 'kit'. I didn't look for them, just a link that had the measurements of the two sizes I've seen.

That setup would be cheaper still!!

**edit**

Look at the o-ring situation.

The 'bleeder' one isn't going to seal in the cap as well (if at all) as the 'adapter' one. The former is to fit IN something, the latter to fit 'on' something.

No huge deal. Just be aware of it.

Less expensive.

I may just order up the ones you have shown, then machine my fork caps to match the geometry of the adapter. The bleeders won't even know they are not in a Motion Pro part

I ended up buying the "pro" kit with the drill and tap provided for $32 from monkey. I could not find the right tap at work so I figure I might as well buy the kit. I will take some pics when I get them installed.

That's a silly question!!!

Obviously, you push the button and they automatically release pent up pressure.

Well I finally got the low-boys installed, they are the "pro" bleeders from motion pro mentioned by canyn above. I have aftermarket low profile fork caps, but I am sure the install proceedure is similar for stock caps:
Machining proceedure:

Clamp in vice in milling machine and locate on stock bleeder hole.
Drill and tap with provided 5/16 32tpi tap provided buy motion pro
I then spot faced with a .450" end mill to provide a flat mounting surface for the bleeder
I had to machine down a 3/8" socket to use as an install tool due to my recessed fork caps.
I also machined a fork cap wrench to accomodate the bleeders.

I am pretty happy with the install, they are super low profile for sure. I will see how they work when I finally get the bike out. Here are some pics:
