Spring survey...
I'm just wondering what you guys are coming up with for spring choices. I find the recommended spring rates on the Racetech site to be pretty worthless for woods riding, so how about you folks that have done the conversion list your riding weight, spring rate, and what you think of where you're at?

.38 RaceTech springs off ebay ($41)
I tried .40s and .42s on my OEM forks, didn't like either one of 'em.
My forks came with springs that I measured to be .40/.42. Offed them before I even rode with 'em due to my previous experience with that rate.
I stick to the woods.
Well...going to Ski's this weekend to ride some well maintained freeways (Ooohhh...he's gonna make me pay for that! )..but it's woods in this neck-of-the-woods.

I'm starting with the stock .38's in my KX forks and will work up from there. Still using the stock 4.6 shock spring but need to get my shock rebuilt before I can determine if everything will be balanced. 170lbs nekkid.
Woods riding with a dash of faster pace desert riding thrown in once or twice a year.

After tearing down the forks to service them i'm not sure if the stock .38's are in the forks or not. It looks like somebody has been into the shim stack judging from the stakes on the retainer nuts being filed off. Possible that the springs could have been changed at the same time. When I pull the forks apart again for the next service i'll measure the weight of the springs. They feel pretty good though.

That is the setup that worked best on my 89 KDX with 41mm 90 KX250 forks. I started with .38/4.6 combo and liked the stiffer spring setup better (maybe because of the Mobil 1 ???) Everyone that rides this bike is amazed at how well it handles for it's age.

I weigh about 185lbs, and the .43 springs work great with the rear shock which was re-valved. The bike is VERY BALANCED and handles AWESOME and DOES NOT RATTLE YOUR TEETH OUT.Green Hornet wrote:.43 w/5.0 rear
