Hey everyone,
I've poured through about 20 pages of general swap posts and about 10 or so specifically related to KX500 swaps. I would just love some confirmation of my plans before I drop the $$$ on the parts.
I've got a 2002 KDX200 (believe that's the H-series). I've found a really good deal on some 1992 KX500 forks with triples, stem, bar clamps, wheel, axle, brake disc, brake caliper (and line). It all looks to be in really good condition.
I mainly woods ride for fun and I'm 6'2" and 240lbs. before I put my gear on.
Is this 1992 KX500 fork set too to give me any more adjust-ability over my stock 2002 KDX200 fork?
I'd value your opinions and suggestions on this also, thanks!
TeamDoty
(edited... ack! 1992 KX500 parts not 1991)

Re: Potential Swap - Please Help Me Verify
Hi. That will swap directly over.
1992 KX500 forks have a few things that make them better than the stock forks.
USD structure is a bit stiffer for those who like less fork flex
little underhand compared to stock
25 mm cartridges
12 mm rod
base valve with much better tuning
rebound valve with better tuning
adjustable rebound valving from the cap
Things to look out for:
tube/fork height (they may be taller, causing a bit of a "chopper", affecting turning)
MX forks have MX valving, "woods" valving is needed for riding out in the woods
stiffer springs will be needed at your riding weight, maybe even .48 (FRSP 395148 Race Tech springs)
Check your spring rate on the shock, if you haven't already.

KDXGarage is spot on! It is a very worthy swap provided you valve and spring it for your riding and apply one of the different fixes to correct your geometry.

by that, he probably means pull the tubes up a little, or shorten travel internally
Also, be aware of (I THINK) 25 mm clamp offset.

Correct. I guess I should have been a little more explicit on that.

Re: Potential Swap - Please Help Me Verify
Awesome stuff! I really appreciate it! I'm hoping I get these, it's a sweet deal for all the parts but I'm 2nd in line for them. If I don't get them I'll continue my search. I'm not afraid of say tackling this with a different swap I just don't want to be down for any period of time... my boys and I try to ride every other weekend so I don't want to be sittin' while their riding! Thank you all again!!!

If you get them, try to get the guy to take the races out of the frame to match up with the KX bearings. If not, then you are putting a bearing with a different race. Not the worst thing, but not ideal.
