Rmz fork swap?

Post by Scrandy »

Hey everyone! I have a chance to buy a full front end from a rmz250. Was wondering if this fork swap can be done or if I should just wait for a kx/kxf to be parted out. The entire bike is still there as far as I know right now so quick answers would be appreciated as this bike probably won't last too long. I have an 04 kdx220. Thanks! :)

They're good forks from what I've read. Cross check your stem bearings, stem length, and fork lengths, but if I had a good deal on the rmz I think I'd go for it.

It will work. I think a few on here have done it.

Stem swap, pull em up or shorten em down, will need some material inside the upper clamp stem hole to take up the slack

normal issues covered here for 12 years

When you say stem swap what stem do I need to use? The stock kdx stem?

I would guess the kdx stem as it'll be correct for your steering head.

1992+ KX125 / KX250, etc. stems are larger in diameter at the upper bearing. Their upper bearing is larger too. One cannot use the top bearing in the KDX / KLX / KX500 head tube.

People usually use the KDX stem.

scrandy, there are a TON of threads on here detailing it and people who have done it describing their experiences. I think the fork conversion subforum was made in very late 2004 or very early 2005, so about 12 years worth.
