KLX 300 vs. H Series KDX 200/220 Front End Weight;

Post by MCKDX220 »

Sorry if this has been posted before as I could not find anything concrete on the weight savings of a KLX 300 front end vs. a H Series KDX 200/220 front end.

I have the opportunity to upgrade the front end on my 87 KDX 200 project to both of above.

Both would be a significant upgrade to the above to the 87 front end.

I think the H series would look more correct, but for a potential weight savings of 4 to 5 lbs it would be foolish not to consider a KLX 300 front end,

especially given 86-88 KDX's are down a bit on power compared to their water cooled younger brothers.

Both are good choices, just looking for opinions and if someone could substantiant the weight differences, I would appreciate it.

Thanks Michael !!!

I read that the klx forks aren't much of an upgrade over the H series cartridge forks.
Maybe you have too many letters between the K and the X in what you're looking for.

The basic premise of my question was weight savings, not so much functionality.

If I can achieve the same performance with a weight savings, all the better.

The 87 KDX is already 5 to 7 lbs lighter due to the lack of plumbing and an additional

4 to 5 lbs would be even better, I am just looking for confirmation on it's weight savings.

I have (3) long suspension XR200R's and given it only puts out ~ 14hp, any weight savings is a big bonus.

Over @ Thumpertalk we have addressed all the weight savings possible and there are many.

The same principle applies to the air cooled models that lack the hp of their younger siblings.

It's basically a power to weight issue.

Thanks Michael !!!
