Identifying and deciding on kx125 forks for a swap

Post by Friedom »

Hi all,
I have the complete late model front end from a 99 DR350 Dirt model. Showa conventional 43mm cartridge forks. I was planning on sliding these into the triples for my 92 kdx200 build.
Now I'm talking to a guy who is offering to trade for a kx125 front end. He says he thinks it's early 90s. They're USD, and he has the wheel, axle, forks and triples.
I'm having trouble determining what/when the 90s kx125 forks were good/changed/great.
Will they be better than my showa conventionals? He wants to trade as he has a DR350 so he wants my front end.
What say ye?

I realize there are a ton of threads about kx swaps. I've done a front end swap before, and this sounds super easy. I haven't been able to find a useful reference on which years KX front ends are better, or what the specs are on them though.
So, conventional 43mm showa or USD early 90s KX front end? (Don't know what size they are yet)

Sure is quiet around here..
Found this today:

"91-95 43mm
95 1st year for mid valve
96-01 46mm
99-02, 04 are bladder forks (left out for 03)
98 1st year for progressive wound springs (junk)
02-04 48mm KYB open chamber
05-07 48mm KYB twin chamber (KX250 2 stroke only)
02-05 KX125 all 48mm open chamber
04-05 KX250F's 48mm KYB open chamber (06 went to Showas)

All 48mm forks fit those bikes triple clamps, EXCEPT: 02 KX's have a different offset, plate mount and steering shaft.

IIRC, KX450 forks fit 96-98 trees."
