94 KDX Fork Conversion

Post by GreenGoblin22 »

So i am new to the kdx 200 world. Just bought my first one. I always rode a cr 125 r. So I have a few questions on these conversion. I got a good deal on this bike but the front forks are toast and did not really want to rebuild those. So I hear the kx 125,250 or 500 are great forks and easy to swap out. My question is since i have a 94 are there only certain year KX's I have to buy. I am not sure on the years that convert. I want to do the newest best conversion for trail riding. I do not ride tracks only trailride. Thanks in advance for any help I can get.

Welcome to the forums. From what you have read so far, what does it sound like to you? It is pretty much the same across all the KDX's.

Think front end conversion, not just fork swap. Read up a lot.

All years KDX200/220 are interchangable for front ends.

Yes, whatever people are saying about 1995+ will apply to 1989 - 1994.

IF all you're doing is trail riding, then your 94 USD forks are fine (IMO those were better than the 95+ conventionals). Rebuild them (cost less than $50) and spring them for your weight and you'll be fine.

94 KDX Fork Conversion

Well i got lucky and found a 01 kx 250 front end. I got the triples, steering stem, KYB forks, Brakes, Rotor, and rim for 80 bucks. Cant really complain about that. I need to figure out what people are saying about this spacer that i might need. Super excited should be a huge upgrade.

The spacer is to take up the gap in the KX top clamp. The hole is larger. It needs a shim.
