So I stumbled across this Youtube video:

He uses the contraceptive... yea bet you'll watch it now.. but yea I'll just use a bag or something. But he cuts the old seal and uses that to force the new seals in. Check it out and tell me what you guys think of doing this instead of buying the seal driver or making one. I'm considering trying this.

UPDATE:

I tried cutting the seal. Grinding the metal so it doesn't scratch. Using that seal as a driver and beating the new seal in... Yea... I'm not doing that again.
It got stuck in the upper fork tube (of the KX500 forks) and I had to dig it out. I was paranoid the whole time of scratching the inner tube. He might have perfected the technique and knows how to do it better maybe.. But I did get some PVC pipe and cut it, ground it down, and smoothed it out. That worked fantastic. but even still.. next time I think I'll have to get over my cheap mentality and buy the real driver. It added 2 hours to my seal and bushing replacement yesterday.

Thanks for the update.

Once I switched to "real" seal drivers, I was surprised at how much easier it was.
