Broken Fork Repair Question
Okay this is a interesting question. Browsing ebay today and find these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/99-00-01 ... 9201QQrdZ1
Basically 99 KX125 forks. The caliper mount on the left fork is broken at the top. Anybody think that a custom bracket could be made to still allow a brake caliper to bolt up and would be reliable/worthwhile? It looks like there is enough of the bracket left that you could drill/tap a hole for a second mount point for said fix it bracket to hook upto. I seriously doubt these will go for more than $10 or $20 so i'm kinda thinking about trying to snag them just to have a look. Any thoughts?

I'm sure you can make it work.... maybe get one of those larger rotor kits and fabricate the bracket that is enclosed.
It's nice he cleaned those up for the auction... should get top dollar out of em now!

I agree with Inda. When I converted my KDX front brake to an oversized one, I unbolted a bracket off the caliper and replaced it with a larger one. No reason that a custom braket couldn't be fabricated and then bolted to the stub you have showing in that photo. Drill and Tap a mounting point to that stub and design a bracket to replace the one on your caliper. A nice winter project, I think.

If you can get the snapped off piece, I'm sure a decent welder could fix it up. Even if you can't I'm sure they could weld a piece on and re drill and tap it. Just some more food for thought. Bottom line is 'YES' it could be fixed.

Thanks Guys. I think i'm going to set a Snipe on them and see what happens. If I get them i'll decide what to do from there.

Just a POV based on nothing...but from some of the aluminum welding I've seen (more like some of the ART I've seen...), I'm sure it could be welded up.
I've seen some thick stuff, some real thin stuff welded as pretty as a picture..all straight and true.
**edit**
Come to think of it, I don't recall any of what I've seen being cast aluminium......
I didn't already said that....neither did anyone else!!
...bailer.....
