Steering Stops for klx300 forks?

I did the klx 300 conversion on my 220 and I am having some trouble with the steering stop. The forks would hit the tank but I drilled and tapped bolts into the original. They worked good but the bolts would dent in from the steering stop on the frame and the forks would hit the tank again. I'm wondering if there are any better solutions to this problem?

I have the same challenge on two bikes right now. Going to tack weld in some fill material to make the stop bigger.

Don't know if it would work for you but this is what I did when converting to KX forks. It has worked so far for me. There is a larger pic and parts details in my gallery under the KX Fork Conversion folder.

I just drilled, tapped, and put a machine screw on each side of the stop. Gave me what I needed.

Same here (stainless - everything I work on I try to replace with stainless) ... although if I remember correctly one side took a few washers as well.
