Will KLX 250 forks work?

Post by 406 »

I know that KLX300 forks are a direct bolt on, but I'm having a tough time locating any that are in decent shape. There are a ton of KLX250S/SF forks in great shape for cheap on eBay. Does anyone know if they'll swap over like the KLX300 forks?

Don't know, but I'd say very, very highly likely.

Uses same steering head bearings as almost every bolt-on Kawasaki option for KDX (80s-91 KX, KLX300, KX500, etc).

Looking farther: Steering stem nut and washer also common to KLX/KDX. Fork legs/internals are shared with KLX300. Wheel components are direct swap for KLX300,KDX200.

It looks very much like a bolt-on.

I think you're right. Significantly less travel on the '09+ 250 forks. They probably bolt up, but maybe not with satisfactory results.

It's not really an off-road bike like the old KLX 250...

Hello folks, and thank you for sharing this great info! I wanted to make sure I understand the previous comments correctly, and to validate some other info I found online while doing random searches. Can the more experience/knowledgeable folks please weigh in on these? it all applies to the KLX USD fork:

1)KLX 300 have approx 11.2 “ travel ? any year make will bolt right on the KDX’s?
2)Pre 2009 KLX250 have the same 11.2” travel as the KLX300? Longer spring and the use of spacer?
3)2009 and newer KLX250S has less travel at aprox 10.0” ?
4)How about the KLX650R, same KYB 43 USD and 11.2” travel and possibly a higher spring rate to support the heavier bike? same front wheel and speedo gear?

If the above is accurate, I can then use a USD Fork from a pre2009 KLX250, any KLX300 or 1993-1996 KLX650R (not the 650C) and adjust the spring rate to suit my weight and riding style ?

I have an '06 KLX250s. The stock springs are set up for a 150 +/- pound rider. I'm 210 so went to RaceTech for heavier springs listed for the KLX300. Spacer (3/4-inch) used for a while but removed.
2003 KDX 220. RB Carb & Head Mods. Desert pipe. She's a runner!
2006 KLX 250 w/351 big bore. A well-sorted dual sporter.
2006 KLR 650. Mostly stock.
2014 Suzuki DL1000.

JASON - Thank You for confirming what I posted, and for the Welcome to the forums  ! The wealth of info in this site is awesome !!! I am a proud owner of 2 KDX's 200 one has a CT plate and the other one is on the way for this fall... It is my goal to make a great trial bike even greater ...

IDRIDR - Thanks for the spring rate suggestion, I am aprox 175Lbs (no gear) so I will def. be upgrading the springs if I get the 250 forks... but I am still researching about the KLX650R I need to find what was the OEM spring rate on that bike.

Look on partzilla.com and sometimes Race Tech has it correct, but I trust the OEM diagrams best. (.43 on the 1994 model, for example)
