Anyone know where I can buy springs

Post by squid »

I completed the swap to 2001 kx 250 forks and can't find springs for them anywhere. They are KYB 46mm's. Thanks for the help in advance. This site should be renamed The KDX bible. Everytime I log on it seems like I learn something new about KDX's

What country are you in??

If you lowered the forks internally, you are going to need Yamaha springs.

Yamaha springs ? All these forks are Kayaba, isn't it ? I'm at the same point for my KX 250 97 fork.
I saw that Eibach and Factory Connection are selling springs too.

So far all I've found for .40 rate springs is eibach and there isn't a shop around that sells them. Wish I would have found some 05- 07 kx forks much easier to buy parts for. Thanks jag for the parts sites wasn't any help on the springs but I did find the best price yet on a rear fender much appreciated.

Ahh ok, I did a search on the forum with 'yamaha springs' :) I didn't know they were different. Hopefully I didn't bring my fork to the suspension guy yet :)

If you need .40kgs use the stock KX125 springs from the same year (2001). Stock rate is .41 for the 125 and they are the same 46mm dia and length.

Are you going to have the forks lowered internally?

What is your weight in full riding gear, including water backpack, tools, supplies, parts, etc. ?

No I don't know how to do that myself. I'm about 150 without my camelbak. Sometimes I ride with some rides without it.

If you are just 150, then why do you want to buy springs??

The previous owner put in .46 springs it's a little stiff for me. I'd be wore out within an hour of riding it. I've been looking for 125 fork springs but it's not an easy find. Everyone is selling the forks as a whole. I guess I should have just narrowed my search to kx125 forks but I didn't.

I might still have the stock springs from my old KDX front end, I'll take a look around the shop tomorrow. DOH, nevermind, you are running a KX front end.

Squid, where are you located? I'd be willing to trade some stock 220 springs for those .46s.

AH!! I thought you had the stock KX springs in it. Yes, .46 should beat you to death. It is making sense now.

By the way, did you get the forks revalved for woods riding (if that is what you do)? If not, then that will add another beating for you.

I may have some springs for you. I have a set or two of Race Tech 4147 fork springs, but am not sure what the rates are.

Race tech offers 2 spring rates for 46mm kybs one is .46 and the other is .36 they offered to sell be one of each BUT I would have to buy both sets of springs for 119. Each. I did not re valve the forks. I did rebuild them last night though first forks I've ever put a tool on :boogie:. I'll do the revalve next along with the springs as soon as I find springs I'm gonna order some kinda valves. Do you recommend any. Also where is the stack I keep hearing about when I pulled out the bottom 14mm Allan I think that's the rebound I saw 3 washers total below the valve is that "the stack"?

I wonder what spring rate you have if you have the .36s I could use one of mine and a .36 that would be softer than it is now. How can you measure the spring without a spring rate gauge?
