Fork ID help
i need some help identifying the year of these forks. The guy on eBay said 01 kx 125. Those should have 46mm sliders. They measure 48mm. The top clamp has KX 250 stamped in it and has rubber mounts. My best guess is 02 or 03. The parts seem to be the same for those 2 years. I want to confirm before I order parts and send the trees and my axle to rb. I was going to have him do the axle mod to use my kdx wheel. It only lists 99-03 on his sight for the mod. Thanks for any insight!

Re: Fork ID help
The clamps and forks are NOT the same for 2002 and 2003.
Why did you buy a lower clamp with a chipped steering stop??

Re: Fork ID help
Crappy eBay pics. I didn't know till I got them. I have a riding buddy that runs an aluminum fab shop and is going to build it up and build up the contact area so I can set my fork stops so the trees don't touch the tank. It seems like the 02-03 forks share part numbers on the rebuild parts. it would be good to know for sure though.

Re: Fork ID help
The offset is different between those 2 years. What does it measure?
Good to have someone who can repair the steering stop! That is a door stop to me.

Re: Fork ID help
I'm heading to Seattle for work. I will be working on it next weekend so I can get everything sent to rb. I need to measure the stock lenth so I know how much to shorten the kx forks. I will measure the offset then. I think I'll be safe ordering the internal parts for the forks.

Re: Fork ID help
I think 22mm was 2002 and 24.7mm was 2003 (or 25mm)

Re: Fork ID help
The distance between parallel lines between the steering stem hole and the fork tube holes.
Look down at it like you are riding the bike, put a straight line from left to right through the steering stem hole, then a 2nd line between the center of the fork tube holes. The distance between those two lines is the offset.

Fork ID help
Thanks! I May have figured it out. The trees are stamped kx250. So I'll assume it's from a 250. They are 48mm. 01forks were 46mm. 03 and 04 forks had gold uppers, and mine are silver. I have the under the caliper brake line style. All that, and the top caps, I am pretty sure they are from an 02. I hope I am right. Thanks for the help!

Re: Fork ID help
gold? No, they weren't gold. I have a set of 2004 clamps, as well as 2005
just becasue it is stamped 250 does not mean it came from a 250 (i know, right?)
2001 was the last year for the cast in lower handlebar clamps...2002 and newer was bolt-style even for the KX125
under the caliper means 1990 - 2003
2004 and up are "KDX style"
If you open them up, THEN you will know, as 2003 did NOT have bladders, 2004 did and I want to say something about the bump stops was a factor in determining 2001 or something. I am rusty on it.

Fork ID help
I'm sorry. I meant the upper fork tubes are a gold color on the 03-04, not the clamps. My upper tubes are silver like the triple clamps. My handlebar clamps are the rubber mount style. I haven't gotten them apart yet though. I hope to do that this weekend so I can order rebuild parts. The kit I'm looking at has the same part number for the 125 and 250 so other than springs I think the 02 parts are the same.
