You can still use the clamps. I'm living (still) proof. The upper clamp fits fine. The lower clamp I shimmed with some brass stock. Carver saw them I think. They clamp down just fine too. So head out and buy some brass shim plate, trim to size and slide them together then torque to about 12 or 13 ft lbs.

Jason,
Are you meaning that I shouldn't suggest a risky modification to make the parts function?

It's a sport where we fabricate many of our own parts or modify to make them fit. The whole KX on a KDX fork setup is a fabrication. Can things go wrong? Sure, that's why we wear a helmet. Ha!!
So it's up to Hornet to assess the risk. I find that shimming the forks to fit the clamps works both in practice and at the engineering level. Lots of other things on my bike are shimmed and they work fine too. Some even designed by the manufacturer that way.

What year forks do you have? What year clamps do you have? I thought you got them from the same bike. If so, why do have tin foil shoved down in the clamps?

Green Hornet, good luck with it.

start off easy, Hornet; say, double jumps first, then move up to the 40 foot table tops.

Tin Foil indeed!!!

When the fork tubes slide up in the clamps and poke your eye out, I will give you $50 shipped for all the KX front end parts.

Shim-shimanee-shim-shimanee
shim-shim sharee
when you listen to skipro,
you just might D - I - E

Just buy some clamps that fit or shim them and hit a large double with the gas on hard. You will be in perfect position to land front end high and do a big slap down landing so they will fire off like bottle rockets.

Sorry, Green Hornet, it is mostly humor between skipro3 and I. :prayer:

The bars are over the forks, so IF they did loose grip, the bars would stop my eye from gettng poked. Adjustments to this will be made when you come out for a visit though.

Hornet, let us know how it works out for you.

skipro3, if you bought the forks and triple clamps from the same bike, why are you using anything to shim it? I just don't understand that.

Thanks for thinking of my safety on any future visit. :supz:

What color Aluminum Foil should I use, Silver or Gold.
Why does the stem have to be knurled? Does it get damaged during the pressing of the stem? I checked the forks are 46mm, but the area where the TT connects are flanged.
