My fork conversion
Ive now got it apart and it seems to have 11 shims in the base valve. It looks like the shims have not been out before.
So remove 2 of the big shims in the base valve?
About to go out and pull down the mid valve and try to work out what they mean about the spring under the rebound is.

Re: My fork conversion
So mid valve apart now, wow thats a shim stack in there.
So I replace the o ring with a little spring to allow that side on the stack to have .4mm movement? And drop 2 of the bigger shims out of that side?
I presume I leave the rebound stack alone.

Yep, that is kawamaha's page. He has very good advice.
I would think a couple of the largest ones from the base valve and maybe one from the midvalve, leaving rebound alone.

Thats what I had been thinking, found the perfect springs for the mid valve. That lot will soften her up.Jason wrote:Yep, that is kawamaha's page. He has very good advice.

What oil weight? Was thinking 7.5.

Re: My fork conversion
Thanks Jason.
Ive got one leg together and the other will be done on the weekend. Then I will re-lace the wheel as the KX wheel is dented and my KDX rim is perfect. Next week will be changing over the steerers.

Re: My fork conversion
Check the rim's spoke nipple hole diameter. I seem to remember people saying something about them being different.

Re: My fork conversion
Pretty sure the rims are the same. I have a wheel builder that wants my gold KX rim, he's gonna swap a KDX rim onto it, said it's just "undo the lacing and relace to new rim"Jason wrote:Check the rim's spoke nipple hole diameter. Yes I measure everything before stripping them down. Im a bicycle mechanic by trade and a racing wheel specialist. These wheels look easy to me.

Re: My fork conversion
They are different in my experience. I laced a KDX rim onto a KX hub during my conversion. I had to drill out the rim to accept the spokes. No big deal, but it had to be done.Jason wrote:Check the rim's spoke nipple hole diameter. I seem to remember people saying something about them being different.

Ive got something very wrong. One on leg when I compress it air and oil try to push past the outside of the main oil seal. Not by the fork leg but around the outside of the seal.
Any ideas?

Re: My fork conversion
Worked it out, somebody has hit the fork upper with something. Its now slightly oval. Not quite sure how to fix it at this stage. Its not out by much but enough.
