2002 KDX200 to DRZ400 Fork - NEED ADVICE

Post by goruthless »

I need all the advice I can get here.

I have a 2002 KDX 200.

My friend had a really nice 2006 Suzuki DRZ400 Triple Tree and Forks for $100.00 (I believe forks are SHOWA 49mm)

I am new to dirt bikes so I am not sure how hard this will be but I really would like to make it happen.

Not sure if anyone has ever done DRZ, but it shouldn't be too bad. You'll probably need the front wheel as well, and possibly brake caliper. Check around this section a bit to get an idea of what's involved.

I know I will need to switch the Steering Stems.

The KDX front brake calipers are the same.

The axles are different.

The KDX rotor is too small.

Sounds like you know what you need. It's not a lot of work to swap the front end, after getting the steering stem swapped over.

I am struggling to find a Front Wheel from a 2006 DRZ400.

Ebay does not have them. Any other wheels that would work with the DRZ400 Forks and Axle

same way you check comparability between kawasaki bikes

http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/oem-schematic/2

here is your front wheel, now start changing years/models to see which part numbers match and what you can find :)

They're both the same fork with different valving, I give it a 50/50 chance of fitting, other than that I haven't a clue. Sorry I couldn't help any further.

I found out the RM 125 or 250 21" Front Wheel will fit.

Now I have to figure out if the Brake Rotor will work.

RM 125 and 250 have 250mm Diameter Rotor.

I think I need a 310mm

if you need a 310mm disc the forks you got must be of the drz400sm (supermoto)??

as the standard bike uses a 250mm rotor.

I did the swap, It is posted on here (on the next page). I used a YZ/WR450F front wheel and spacers, and could use the stock KDX front brakes with the YZ/WR rotor. Just had to shim the DRZ axle with a couple washers. Love them, sprung about right for my 240 lb frame. If you are lighter, you may have to use lighter fork springs. I also use a Titanium 5.5 shock spring from a YZ 250F.

This is my rifle, this is my gun, the YZ to go fast, the KDX is for fun!
