Honda forks on a KDX

Post by Uncle_Steve »

Hi Guys!

I'm new to the forum and have a question to ask about a fork conversion.

I managed to get my hands on a set of inverted forks from a Honda CR250 '02 model, I would like to to the conversion, but not sure if I should get a Honda triple clamp (due to offset etc) or get a KX triple clamp?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks from sunny South Africa

I would stick with the honda triple. Can you get the rest of the front end?

I assume those forks are Showas and getting the rest of the front end should make the swap easier.

Hey Ted,

They are Showas, unfortunately I cant get the rest of the front end, I have contacted a few places locally to get a Honda triple clamp, my concerns are the diameters of the bearings etc. that need to fit into the triple clamp.

The part would have to be sourced from Japan (apparently) and is non-refundable. So if it doesn't work, I've wasted cash!

Another thing, my initial post was somewhat incomplete, I do have the front end, wheel, caliper, forks etc, just not a triple clamp.

I am 99.9% sure that the diameter of the Showa tubes is different than anything that Kawi used with the KYBs. If you tried a KX triple you would either have to make a shim for the tubes or get the clamps machined to fit the tubes. Then you would have to deal with the spacing between the tubes being different.

Get the CR triple and pop the stem out and have your KDX stem fitted in and it sounds like you would be all set. Shouldn't be that hard to find a good used triple on eBay.

Ok, well I have ordered the triple clamp and I expect it to be here within 2 weeks! Will keep you guys posted so the rest of the guys know if it's an easy enough mod.

Thanks for all the info Ted!
