Bar mount rubber cones.

I took a pretty good digger last weekend and twisted the bar mounts in the triple clamps. I was able to yarn them back to straight a little too easy so I decided to replace the rubber cones in the triple clamps.

I have KX forks on my bike and wanted something a little firmer to replace the very soft KX rubber cones so I (hate to say it) put a set of honda rubber cones in the triple clamp. They are a lot stiffer than even new Kawasaki rubber cones and seemed to fit very well. I didn't get a chance to give them a test ride but to see about the vibration but they look to be a good fit. I'll report back after a good ride.

Scott's makes urethane cones.

I have not yet had a chance to ride with the new cones but I thought I would post the part number if any one cared.

Honda part # 53133-KA3-832 You will need to order 4 of them.

I have seen the Scotts cones but thought I would give these a try. I didn't want anything too stiff. And the Scotts are about $20 and the four Honda cones were about $14.

I went for a little ride today with the new cones and they seem to be pretty good. I did notice a little more vibration than I had but not enough to be concerned with and it could have just been in my head. Over all I would say they are a good up grade from stock. I can't say I would just go out and buy them just to have them but if your in need of a new set then go ahead and give them a try. If you don't like them then it's only $14.

The cones come with metal washers molded into them and I also used the stock washer on the bottom so that may have made them a little tighter. I may try them with out the washer and see if that changes anything.

How tight do you tighten up the rubber cones?
Is there a torque spec listed somewhere? I can't seem to find one.

I'm sure there is a spec somewhere but I just tighten them down until the nut bottoms out on the stem. When you remove the bar mount stem (?) you will see a shoulder at the threads so you can only go so far.

Funny you should mention about bottoming the nut out on the stem. Well my new/used triple clamps which I think they came off a kx500 cause they bolted right up but the guy I bought them off says they came off a kx250 so I don't know what the truth is.
Anyhow I tried tightening up the nuts and they wouldn't snug up. The thickness of the kdx (thicker) verses my new triple clamp is different. So I'm going to have find some bushings in order for me to snug up the nuts. Make sense? maybe the photos will. The left side nut is tight. I bought the Honda cones.

how would you feel about replacing the upper tripple with one like this?

you might be able to sell the lower with your upper and break even
assuming they are interchangable that is

Washers would even work. If you put them on top it could even be a bar riser.
