thinking about the fork conversion yz forks

Post by canamfan »

I just bought a complete 98 yz 125 It had been sitting for a year so i cleaned the carb, changed trans fluid and she fired right up. I was thinking about selling the entire bike $800, to make a little money or using the forks and parting it out. It runs excellent seems way stiff to me compared to the 97 kdx, which it should. Has any one used the 98 yz forks? I would probably use the entire setup including the wheel and disc brake, don't care about not having a odo.

46mm kyb USD forks. Probably similar to the 43mm yz250 forks I'm using on my kids. Very nice fork, and the swap on mine was relatively easy. Press the stem, just like a kx swap. I used the entire yz front end as well.

They should work well but before you go with the parting out check to see what the parts you will have are going for and if they are going at all. If you can get $800 for the bike and you can only get say $400 for the rest of the parts after the swap then you will have a $400 fork swap, which is a little on the hight side. But if you can take the forks and still get most if not all of your money back parting out the rest then go for it.

I don't know what you paid for the bike but that also has to be put into consideration. Along with the time (waiting for the buyer) of parting out the bike and how fast you need/want the return.

I gave $500 for it. I just came in from riding it, that little bike rips if you keep it on the pipe, the last 125 mxer i rode was my 87 kawasaki 125 they have improved. It still has the original front tire on it, i believe. I'd like to fix it up and sell it, it needs tires, grips, levers, but i'd probably put to much in it. I got a set of black plastic with it. I hate parting good bikes but i see guys do it all the time on e-bay I guess that's why I never make any money! ha!
