Steering Stem bearing Race removal

Hi there.
Just got all my parts together and gonna start with fork swap.
Just wondering if anyone has any good ideas on how to remove/install the steering stem bearing race (top/bottom) with just general tools?
Have a punch to get them out but putting them back in level seems like it might be the tricky part.
Thanks in advance for any info

Just use a brass punch, get it going in and keep driving it back and forth until it hits solid. The sound will change when it has seated.

Thanks rbates9.
Will give that a try. Hoping they come out easy without having to heat them up.
Thanks

Heating the race will make them come out harder. They should come out with out heat. Just go back and forth, side to side. They should come out pretty easy.

They come out easy with a drift

I tap them back in with a hard plastic mallet

Or get them started and use the old race to drive them in with a hammer

Yep...they came out pretty easy.
Set the new ones back in using a rubber mallet then finished using the old races to set them.
Thanks

(in order not to start a new post on an existing topic im reviving an old post)

i wasnt planning on redoing the bearing but Ron advised me to so i will, long story short, is there a difference between the upper and lower races ?
or is this a question that will awnser itself when i go to tap the old ones out ?

Yes, they are different sizes. Try to keep the races paired up with the bearings they came with.

For example, don't use new bearings with old races.
