right...Bidding up an auction is quite common on eBay, and eBay doesn't do anything against it as they get 3% of final bid.

That is the way eBay's max bid system works. You enter the maximum you are willing to pay and anytime someone else bids against you, eBays system automatically keeps you on top. That is until those other bidders exceed your max price.

So those 7 bids in a row are really the other person making 7 attempts to be the current winner of the auction.

Say the auction was at 20 bucks, and this guy (we will call him Guy) enters a maximum bid of $60. The price doesn't go to sixty, it goes to 22 or whatever, just enough to be more than the current bid. Someone else bids 30, ebay enters bid for Guy at 31. Someone bids 35, ebay enters bid for Guy at 36. And so on and so forth until this someone or someone else bids higher than Guy's maximum bid. Hence the 7 bids in a row.

but there aren't bids in between, just 7 bids from him. Also, the 77% bidding activity with seller is real convincing. Just to give you and idea how bad the bidding system on eBay is, last year a used headlight piece for a 88-89 trx250r went for $1,500, nevermind you can pick them up for $100-$300 all day . Every single bidder except the winning bid, had 100% activity with the seller. And now to cover up this self bidding system, they make their accounts private so you can't see the activity with the seller.

y u no comprende? The only time you will see a bid in between, is if the new bidder put in a higher max bid than Guy's $60 max bid, and then Guy goes back and increases his max bid above the new guys max bid. This is the way you see it alternate. Called a bidding war.

The same seller can NOT bid up an auction by putting in higher bids in a row. All he would be doing is increasing his max bid. The current price would not change and the increases in his max bid would not be reflected in the sale history unless one of the increases is done AFTER someone bids something higher than 60 and tops his max bid.

In order to bid up your own auctions, you would have to have more than one account bidding. If a guy has three accounts, he can list it on one, put in a max bid from the second, then put in a higher max bid from the third account, and then back and forth.

Say a product is on auction with a starting bid of .99. I see this, and I want it. I think i will pay no more than $15 for it, so I go ahead and bid that. The price of that is currently .99 cents, but my MAX bid kept private by ebay is $15. Some other guy comes along, sees that the highest bid so far is from me at .99, and he bids $5. Ebay lets him know that his bid was not the highest so far, and ebay automatically increases my bid to an amount higher than 5. The guy then bids again, bidding 12$. Same thing happens. Say nobody else bids. I bought it for just over $12, The bid history only shows 3 bids all by me. Because the other dude never put in a bid higher than my original bid, his bids won't even show up. The first one for .99, the second for a little over 5, and the third and final one for a little over 12

Clear as mud? My Ebay philosophy is if there is something I want, I figure how much I'm willing to pay tops and feel like I got a good deal. I wait until the last minute of the auction and post a max bid of that amount then. Unless somone already has a max bid higher than what I'm willing to pay, I win. If they do, then so be it, I didn't want to pay that much for it anyway. I refuse to get into bidding wars. You're only going to pay the amount it takes to beat the next highest bid, not the amount you had as your "max bid".
