1996 KDX 200 + 1996 KX125 Pro Circuit forks + KX wheel + KDX brake caliper + Applied Racing triple clamps + Pro Taper Universal 1 1/8 bar mounts + about 2 hours work = THE BEST RIDE I'VE EVER HAD!!!!!!!!!
The machinist was awesome - even machined me a spacer out of the KX stem to replace the "shim stock" others have used to fill the top clamp space - said it's the thinnest spacer he's ever made.
The KX stem pressed right out but the KDX stem was being difficult. Machinist called saying he didn't want to hurt the threads by applying too much pressure and I gave the go ahead to cut the KDX lower clamp to facilitate the press out.
Still have to do something re: tank clearance, just barely touching the tank at full right or left. Will probably try the KDX200Kev mod to the stop unless someone has a better idea.
Rode around the house for about 20 mins then retorqued everything Saturday night. Sunday I did about 30 desert miles near Florence Junction and OMG what a difference. Rode trails I was used to and I just floated over rocks I knew were gonna be tough. It was like they weren't even there. Confidence level is at a new high!
Thanks to all the folks who have posted here regarding this conversion. Following the "best practices" and the good advice from everyone I felt like I really knew what I was doing and everything came off without a hitch.
A toast to kdxrider.net, the helpful souls here and to the legendary KDX200 (with KX forks of course).

Did he heat the the lower TT? It has industrial stength Loc-tite on it. If he would have, you probably would have saved the lowers.... not like you would ever use it again....

My forks were just modded. My guy took the Mid-Valve out and revalved the forks. He has a program, that gives ya ball park figures for different apps. Rear shock was rebuilt also & valved. That is very nice. Don't feel crap in the rear now. I'll know soon what the forks are like.
