rear shock question

Im in the process of servicing front n rear suspensipn on sons 95 kdx200....i noticed a couple tiny 1mm knicks on shock shaft assumingly from debris flying up and smacking it. Wasnt leaking so i didnt replace head seal just put a new bump stop (crumbling) and new fluid. i then go to shop to have them recharge bladder. But they said if they charged the bladder it would leak out due to the knicks. My question is.... If it wasnt leaking before, just charging the bladder shouldnt make it leak would it??

remove the nicks with a wet stone and see what happens

Not sure if 95+ and 89-94 use the same shaft but I have a spare shock off an '89 I only needed for a new lower clevis and don;t mind parting it out

yeah, not sure either. Ill do some research...or maybe someone will comment. Price range?

probably the nicks allowed the pressure to bleed out, so charging it now would just be a waste since it would do it again.
I would just leave it as is unless it is causing a noticeable problem.

doesnt the bladder hold the nitrogen? I. Dont understand how rhe knicks would allow it to leak out.

The nitrogen in the bladder is what helps the seal to hold against the shaft.

Just use a bicycle pump for now to see how it does.

yeah, thats what i was going to do. Put some air in, Run it, see if it holds. (I think itll be fine)

You can fill it with high pressure air temporarily with no ill effects, though you will want to switch to Nitrogen for long term (because regular air condenses and changes density with pressure and temp changes). I have used a bike pump to inflate to check and then taken it to the local shop for N2.

Manual calls for (SAE5wt or Bel-Ray SE2 #40) i used Redline lightweight synthetic 5wt from motosport.

I used KYB the last rebuild 7.5wt, but have used Belray as well. Use whatever is available or you have a preference for.

It is not too bad if you get it from a Kawasaki dealer. It is the original oil in the shock.

My bad, got my fork oil mixed up with my shock oil. The KYB I used last time in my forks, my last shock rebuild was Maxima light 75-390

I have seen no ill effects on using air from a bicycle high pressure air pump. I use the recommended pressure.

Dry air will behave nearly identically to nitrogen. Moisture is what causes issues with pressure fluctuation during temperature changes.

Found a quart of k2c for 22$ so I just ended up using that with a fresh nitrogen charge that old shock feels brand new again!
