I never thought suspension settings made that huge of a difference. I always got on something and went and just dealt with how it handled. After reading stuff on here, I decided it would be easy to play with compression/rebound settings. So I played around and got the back dialed in... WOW. You guys were right, major difference
Now I'm playing with the sag in the back. My question: If I'm doing this by myself (without an extra pair of hands to help measure), its kind of hard to take a measurement and set race sag. Since I figured that whether the rear spring is the correct spring for my weight or not, I'm not changing it, its stayin. That being said, can I just set the sag so I have 30-40mm static sag (got them numbers from an article i saw posted on here) and call it good? Or should I really try to get someone to help me take measurements and set the race sag? Could you see it making that huge of a difference?
From the article, it seemed like race sag was important and the static sag was just a check to see if the spring was right for your weight. Well if I'm going to say/assume that the rear spring is the correct spring, then could I just "assume" that my "race sag" will be good?
I dunno what the hell the P.O. did with that thing lol. I had 77mm of free sag when I started! I got it down to about 50-55mm, but I was starting to mess up the adjuster and lock rings. So I stopped and ordered a spanner, I'll keep messing with it when that comes in.

best bet wait for a buddy helps tons cant explain it any further. Grab pops on weekend or bud and knock it out. You felt the better now go further. I did the same and followed the inda guide mucho pleased. Dont rush a better thing understand it first. Youll like going the extra effort tho. IMO
If you cant fix it with a hammer, you have an electrical problem.

Set it to 100mm, then see what the static sag is.

Alright, thanks for the replies guys. I'll worry more about the race sag then. Hopefully I can get someone to lend me a hand this weekend.

If you are 150 in full gear, with a stock spring, then you are probably going to need a softer spring. 4.8-ish would be better.

eat more lift more weights.

For the best possible action, both settings need to be right, with fresh fluid in the shock. And don't forget grease in the linkage. You need to have the correct spring weight to get both measurements to dial in, otherwise it is a compromise and it will tend to be stiff.
If you can only get one right, set the rider sag at 100 or 105.
Really, shocks haven't been improved on much in the last twenty years or so. Forks have.
AND - don't forget about new foam for the seat. It can improve compliance feel a lot.
