KX/KDX hybrid with 2002 KYB forks.

Post by ktmdude2002 »

I'm pretty sure this has been discussed somewhere in the forum, but I've been looking for weeks and haven't found anything specific. I bought a 2002 KX 125 roller and am putting a 2005 KDX motor in it. I know the bladder forks have a major issue with mid-stroke harshness & I want to find a cure before I get the frame finished & bolt it all back together. I'm building this for my son who is @ 200# and a C level HS rider.

Has anyone done a successful revalving of the 48mm KYBs for woods/off-road? If anyone could point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it greatly.

I'm not familiar with the 2002 forks. I can say that disabling/removing the bladders on the '04 forks I had was an improvement.

I think you'll find some woods/offroad stacks if you look in the suspension forum over at thumpertalk for those forks.

I have an 02 hybrid as well.
I removed the bladders completely and felt that it made a minimal difference. A little smoother on the down-stroke is how I would describe it.
I also modified the stack a little, but still feel that they are fairly stiff.
Truthfully, I prefer the plush feel of the 46mm forks on my 01 hybrid for woods riding. The 48's are a better track setup.

Doc, do you remember what you did with your revalve? I've read several different suggestions, but no firm results from stack changes after doing a bladder mod. Was it just the base valve you modified?
